I need help knowing how to pay for college?

I am going off the college as a freshman very soon and my problem is determining whether I should attend a state university or a private university. I am tied between USF or SFSU of either becoming a bio or psych major. My problem is that I really wanted to attend USF, but since it's private, the tuition is extremely high. And what's worse is that I didn't apply for any financial aid, grants, or scholarships :( I missed all the deadlines! My mother is the only one working in my family but she earns a lot. And I don't want to put her through a tough time with monetary matters b/c of my college tuition. So I was wondering if I could still apply for fasfa next year? What else can I do?
